The Bihar Police SI 2026 recruitment cycle is being conducted by the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) for 1,799 Police Sub-Inspector posts in the Home (Police) Department, Government of Bihar, under Advertisement No. 05/2025. The post carries Pay Level 6.

Although the recruitment notification was issued in September 2025, the examination process has continued through 2026.

Latest Update: BPSSC cancelled the Main Written Examination held on 27 May 2026.

In its notice dated 23 September 2026, the Commission stated that the examination was cancelled due to unavoidable reasons and that a fresh examination date would be announced separately. As of 3 October 2026, BPSSC's official website does not show a newer Mains re-examination date.

Candidates preparing for Bihar Police SI should therefore continue Mains preparation and rely only on BPSSC's official notices for the revised examination schedule.

Is Bihar Police SI Recruitment Cancelled?

No. The recruitment itself has not been cancelled.

BPSSC has cancelled the Main Written Examination conducted on 27 May 2026 under Advertisement No. 05/2025. A fresh Mains examination date is to be announced separately.

The accurate position is: The recruitment remains active, but the previously conducted Mains examination has been cancelled and will need to be conducted again.

Bihar Police SI Vacancy 2026

The current main recruitment contains 1,799 Police Sub-Inspector vacancies.

Category Vacancies
Unreserved 850

Scheduled Caste 210

Transgender 7
Total 1,799

The notification also shows 614 posts reserved horizontally for women and 36 posts under the specified freedom-fighter descendant provision.

A dedicated Bihar Police SI Vacancy 2026 page should explain the category table, women's horizontal reservation, domicile implications and reservation rules separately.

Separate Bihar Police Special Branch SI Recruitment 2026

Candidates may also see references to a separate 2026 Bihar Police SI recruitment.

BPSSC issued Advertisement No. 09/2026 for the post of Police Sub-Inspector (General Closed Cadre) in the Special Branch under the Home Department. The official BPSSC site lists this advertisement separately from the 1,799-post regular SI recruitment.

That recruitment has been reported for 150 Special Branch SI posts, with applications opening in July 2026.

For PraveshExam: This should be treated as a separate recruitment page or current-news/update page rather than adding 150 to the 1,799 regular SI vacancies.

Bihar Police SI Eligibility Criteria 2026

Candidates must satisfy educational, age and physical requirements.

Educational Qualification

The candidate must have passed Graduation from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification recognised by the State Government.

The qualification had to be completed by 1 August 2025 for Advertisement No. 05/2025. Candidates who had not completed graduation by the cut-off date were not eligible for this recruitment cycle.

Bihar Police SI Age Limit

The minimum age is 20 years.

Category- and gender-wise standard upper-age limits are:

Category Male Female
Unreserved 37 years 40 years
BC / EBC 40 years 40 years
SC / ST 42 years 42 years

Third-gender candidates are subject to the relevant provisions stated in the notification.

BPSSC also provides specified relaxations for eligible Bihar government servants and ex-servicemen.

The notification uses 1 August 2025 for minimum-age/qualification assessment while applying the specified previous-year reference for the maximum-age protection described in the notice. A dedicated Eligibility page should explain this unusual age-calculation rule carefully.

Bihar Police SI Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Written Examination
  2. Main Written Examination
  3. Physical Standard / Physical Efficiency Test
  4. Document / Eligibility Verification
  5. Medical and Antecedent Verification

The written examination is objective-type.

The physical test is qualifying, while final merit is based principally on the marks used from the Main Written Examination under the recruitment rules.

Bihar Police SI Prelims Exam Pattern

Particular Details
Questions 100
Marks 200
Duration 2 hours
Subjects General Knowledge & Current Affairs
Minimum Qualifying Mark 30%
Negative Marking 0.2 mark per wrong answer

The notification states that candidates scoring below 30% in Prelims are not eligible for the Main Examination.

BPSSC can shortlist approximately 20 times the number of vacancies from Prelims for Mains, category-wise and merit-wise, subject to candidate availability.

This makes Current Affairs and broad General Knowledge particularly important at the screening stage.

Bihar Police SI Mains Exam Pattern

The Main Examination has two papers.

Paper I — General Hindi

Particular Details
Questions 100
Marks 200
Duration 2 hours
Subject General Hindi
Minimum Qualifying 30%

General Hindi is qualifying. The marks obtained in the General Hindi paper are not added to the final merit score.

Paper II — General Studies

Paper II contains:

  • General Studies
  • General Science
  • Civics
  • Indian History
  • Indian Geography
  • Mathematics
  • Mental Ability

The paper contains 100 questions for 200 marks in two hours.

For PraveshExam: This is the paper that should drive the bulk of Bihar Police SI question-bank preparation.

Bihar Police SI Negative Marking

BPSSC applies 0.2 mark negative marking for every incorrect answer in both stages of the written examination.

This is an important distinction from many banking exams that deduct one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question.

Wrong answer → minus 0.2 mark

Candidates should therefore optimise for accurate attempts instead of indiscriminate guessing.

Bihar Police SI Syllabus 2026

The Bihar Police SI syllabus can be organised into the following major preparation areas.

Prelims

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

  • Bihar Current Affairs
  • National Current Affairs
  • International Current Affairs
  • Government Schemes
  • Awards and Honours
  • Sports

Mains General Studies

The official Paper II domains are:

  • General Studies
  • General Science
  • Civics
  • Indian History
  • Indian Geography
  • Mathematics
  • Mental Ability

For PraveshExam: These should be mapped to the detailed subjects and topics already created for Bihar Police SI, including Ancient History, Medieval History, Modern History, Bihar GK, Polity, Geography, Science, Maths and Mental Ability.

Bihar-Specific Preparation

Although the official Mains paper names broad General Studies subjects, Bihar-specific knowledge remains highly valuable because the recruitment is for Bihar Police and recurring state-exam preparation commonly includes Bihar-focused history, geography, economy, culture and current affairs.

Your existing Bihar Police SI topic banks for:

  • Bihar GK
  • Bihar History
  • Bihar Geography
  • Bihar Economy
  • Bihar Current Affairs

can therefore form an important examination-preparation layer alongside the official broad domains.

Bihar Police SI Final Merit

The notification states that the final merit list is prepared using the marks applicable from the Main Written Examination, category-wise and in merit order.

The General Hindi paper is only qualifying and is not counted in merit. The physical test is also qualifying.

Therefore, the most important scoring component for final selection is the General Studies Mains performance, subject to the candidate clearing Hindi, physical requirements and all eligibility checks.

Minimum Final Qualifying Percentage

For preparation of the final merit list, the notification specifies minimum qualifying percentages including:

Category Minimum Qualifying Percentage
General 40%
BC 36.5%
EBC 34%
SC/ST and Women 32%

These percentages should not be confused with the Prelims 30% minimum or the 30% qualifying requirement in General Hindi.

Bihar Police SI Salary

The official notification places Bihar Police Sub-Inspector at Pay Level 6.

The actual monthly salary includes the applicable basic pay under the Bihar government pay matrix together with admissible allowances and deductions.

A dedicated Bihar Police SI Salary & Job Profile page should separately explain:

  • Basic Pay
  • Dearness Allowance
  • House Rent Allowance
  • Other Admissible Benefits
  • Probation / Training
  • SI Duties
  • Police-Station Responsibilities
  • Investigation Responsibilities
  • Promotion Path
