Bihar Police SI Physical Test 2026: Height, Running & PET

Latest details for this resource.

The Bihar Police SI Physical Test 2026 is a compulsory qualifying stage for candidates shortlisted after the Main Written Examination. The physical stage tests whether candidates meet the prescribed height, chest and weight standards and can successfully complete the required running, high jump, long jump and shot put events.

No marks are awarded merely for exceeding the minimum height, chest or weight standards. Candidates who fail to satisfy the prescribed minimum physical requirements are declared unsuccessful. The current Advertisement No. 05/2025 specifies the applicable physical measurements, while the PET events are governed by the Bihar Police recruitment rules as amended from time to time.

Male: One mile within 6 minutes 30 seconds, 4-foot high jump, 12-foot long jump and 16-foot shot-put standard.

Female: 1 kilometre within 6 minutes, 3-foot high jump, 9-foot long jump and 10-foot shot-put standard.

Bihar Police SI Physical Test 2026 Overview

Physical Requirement Male Female
Running 1 mile within 6 min 30 sec 1 km within 6 min
High Jump 4 feet 3 feet
Long Jump 12 feet 9 feet
Shot Put 16 feet with 16-lb shot 10 feet with 12-lb shot
Height 160–165 cm depending on category 155 cm
Chest Required Not required
Weight No specific minimum stated 48 kg minimum
Nature Qualifying Qualifying

Candidates must meet both the Physical Standard Test (PST) requirements and the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) requirements.

Bihar Police SI PST and PET Difference

The physical stage has two different types of requirements.

PST — Physical Standard Test

PST checks physical measurements such as:

  • Height
  • Chest measurement
  • Chest expansion
  • Female minimum weight

PET — Physical Efficiency Test

PET checks actual physical performance through:

  • Running
  • High Jump
  • Long Jump
  • Shot Put

A candidate must satisfy the applicable requirements in both areas. Passing the running test does not compensate for failing the minimum height requirement, and higher written-examination marks do not compensate for failure in a mandatory physical standard.

Bihar Police SI Male Height 2026

The current Advertisement No. 05/2025 specifies different minimum heights according to category.

Male Category Minimum Height
Unreserved / General 165 cm
Backward Class 165 cm
Extremely Backward Class 160 cm
Scheduled Caste 160 cm
Scheduled Tribe 160 cm

These are minimum standards. A General or BC male candidate measuring below 165 cm does not satisfy the required physical standard. Similarly, EBC, SC and ST male candidates must measure at least 160 cm.

Bihar Police SI Female Height 2026

Women belonging to all categories must have a minimum height of 155 cm under the current Bihar Police SI Advertisement No. 05/2025.

This current recruitment advertisement should be followed for the ongoing 1,799-post recruitment.

Candidates may encounter older Bihar Police recruitment-rule documents showing a different female-height provision. For the present recruitment, the advertisement specifically states 155 cm for women of all categories.

Bihar Police SI Male Chest Requirement

Chest measurement is compulsory for male candidates. The required standards vary according to category.

General, BC and EBC Male Candidates

Measurement Minimum
Chest without expansion 81 cm
Chest after expansion 86 cm
Required expansion At least 5 cm

SC and ST Male Candidates

Measurement Minimum
Chest without expansion 79 cm
Chest after expansion 84 cm
Required expansion At least 5 cm

The current notification explicitly requires a minimum difference of 5 cm between unexpanded and expanded chest measurements. A candidate therefore has to satisfy both the absolute measurement and the expansion requirement.

Example: A General male candidate with 82 cm unexpanded and 85 cm expanded would not meet the standard because the expanded measurement is below 86 cm and the expansion is only 3 cm.

Is Chest Measurement Required for Female Candidates?

No. BPSSC states that chest measurement is not conducted for women.

Female candidates instead have minimum height and weight requirements in addition to the PET events.

Bihar Police SI Female Weight

Female candidates of all categories must have a minimum weight of 48 kilograms under Advertisement No. 05/2025.

There is no equivalent minimum-weight requirement stated for male candidates in the physical-standard section of the current advertisement.

Bihar Police SI Running Test for Male Candidates

Male Police Sub-Inspector candidates must complete:

One mile within 6 minutes 30 seconds

The original recruitment rule prescribed six minutes, but a 2019 amendment increased the permissible time to 6 minutes 30 seconds for male candidates. Candidates taking more than 6 minutes 30 seconds are declared unsuccessful.

One mile is approximately 1.609 kilometres, so the test is commonly described as roughly a 1.6 km run. The official legal standard, however, is expressed as a one-mile run.

Bihar Police SI Running Test for Female Candidates

1 kilometre within 6 minutes

A candidate who exceeds the prescribed time fails the running requirement.

The running event should therefore be treated as a threshold test rather than an event where a faster time earns additional merit marks.

Bihar Police SI High Jump

Candidate Minimum High Jump
Male 4 feet
Female 3 feet

The Bihar Police recruitment rules provide three chances for the jumping event. A candidate needs to clear the required height within the permitted attempts.

Clearing a greater height does not create an additional merit advantage because the PET is qualifying.

Bihar Police SI Long Jump

Candidate Minimum Long Jump
Male 12 feet
Female 9 feet

Candidates receive up to three chances for the event under the applicable rules.

Candidates should aim beyond the exact minimum during practice because performing exactly at the threshold during training leaves little margin for variation on test day.

Bihar Police SI Shot Put

Shot put is another mandatory PET event.

Candidate Shot Weight Minimum Distance
Male 16-pound shot 16 feet
Female 12-pound shot 10 feet

Candidates receive up to three chances for the shot-put event under the applicable recruitment rules.

Bihar Police SI Complete Male Physical Standards

Test General / BC EBC SC / ST
Height 165 cm 160 cm 160 cm
Chest Unexpanded 81 cm 81 cm 79 cm
Chest Expanded 86 cm 86 cm 84 cm
Chest Expansion 5 cm 5 cm 5 cm
Running 1 mile in 6:30 1 mile in 6:30 1 mile in 6:30
High Jump 4 ft 4 ft 4 ft
Long Jump 12 ft 12 ft 12 ft
Shot Put 16 lb / 16 ft 16 lb / 16 ft 16 lb / 16 ft

Only the height and chest standards vary by applicable male category. The PET event standards are otherwise common.

Bihar Police SI Complete Female Physical Standards

Test Requirement
Height 155 cm
Minimum Weight 48 kg
Chest Not measured
Running 1 km within 6 min
High Jump 3 ft
Long Jump 9 ft
Shot Put 12 lb shot for 10 ft

The physical test is qualifying. A candidate must meet all applicable minimum standards rather than only performing well in one event.

Bihar Police SI Third-Gender Physical Standards

Advertisement No. 05/2025 states that the physical standards and Physical Efficiency Test standards for Kinnar / Kothi / Hijra / Transgender (Third Gender) candidates are the same as those prescribed for Backward Class female candidates.

Accordingly, the applicable female-type physical standards are used for eligible third-gender candidates under the current recruitment framework.

How Many Attempts Are Given in High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Put?

Candidates receive three chances for each of these events: High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Put.

The running event is different and should not be assumed to provide repeated attempts in the same manner. Candidates should prepare to clear the running requirement in the scheduled attempt.

Does Bihar Police SI PET Carry Marks?

No. The Bihar Police SI physical stage is qualifying in nature.

The physical measurements themselves carry no marks. The current advertisement explicitly states that no marks are awarded for height, chest or weight, and candidates failing the prescribed standards are declared unsuccessful.

The recruitment rules also make successful qualification in PET a condition for inclusion in the final selection process.

  • Running faster than another candidate does not automatically increase the candidate's final merit score.
  • Jumping farther than the minimum does not add bonus marks.
  • Throwing the shot farther than the minimum does not improve written merit.
  • Candidates simply need to clear every required standard.

Can Written Marks Compensate for PET Failure?

No. A candidate who obtains very high marks in the Main Examination must still qualify the physical stage.

Failure in a compulsory physical standard or PET requirement results in elimination from the recruitment process.

Written performance and physical qualification serve different purposes. The Main Examination establishes competitive merit, while the physical test determines whether the candidate satisfies the mandatory fitness standards required for the post.

Bihar Police SI PET Selection Ratio

Under the applicable selection framework, candidates are shortlisted from Mains for the physical stage category-wise.

The recruitment rules provide for candidates to be called for the Physical Efficiency Test based on Main Examination performance before the final merit list is prepared.

Only candidates who qualify the required physical stage remain eligible for final selection.

Bihar Police SI Physical Test Preparation for Running

Running should usually be the first physical component candidates begin preparing because cardiovascular endurance takes time to develop.

Candidate Final Requirement Approximate Average Pace
Male 1.6 km in 6 min 30 sec Roughly 4 min/km
Female 1 km in 6 min 6 min/km

Candidates should not attempt to reach the target pace suddenly if they are not already accustomed to running.

Gradual improvement in endurance, pace control and recovery generally provides a safer preparation approach.

High Jump Preparation

High jump requires more than general fitness. Candidates need:

  • Approach control
  • Take-off confidence
  • Leg strength
  • Coordination
  • Landing technique

Training should initially emphasise safe technique at lower heights before progressing toward and beyond the required standard.

Male candidates should be able to clear 4 feet consistently, rather than only once in ideal practice conditions. Female candidates should similarly build consistency beyond the 3-foot threshold.

Long Jump Preparation

The minimum standards are 12 feet for men and 9 feet for women.

Long-jump performance depends on:

  • Approach speed
  • Take-off technique
  • Explosive leg strength
  • Balance
  • Landing technique

Candidates should practise measured jumps so they know their typical distance rather than relying on visual estimates.

Shot Put Preparation

Shot put often causes difficulty for candidates who focus only on running.

Male candidates use a 16-pound shot, while female candidates use a 12-pound shot.

Successful performance depends on technique as well as strength.

The shot should be pushed from the shoulder rather than thrown like a cricket ball or ordinary object. Candidates unfamiliar with shot put should practise with appropriate supervision because incorrect technique can reduce distance and increase the risk of shoulder, elbow or wrist injury.

Should Candidates Train Only to the Minimum Standard?

Training exactly to the official minimum leaves very little margin.

For example, a male candidate who consistently completes the one-mile run in exactly 6 minutes 29 seconds during practice may struggle if test-day conditions are less favourable.

Similarly, someone whose best long jump is exactly 12 feet may not reproduce that distance every time.

A better preparation objective is to consistently perform somewhat beyond the minimum while maintaining safe training practices. The official qualifying threshold remains unchanged; the extra margin is simply useful for reliability.

Physical Test Day Measurements

Candidates should expect physical measurements to be taken according to the prescribed standards.

  • Height is measured against the required category threshold.
  • Male candidates undergo chest measurement in both unexpanded and expanded conditions.
  • Female candidates are not subject to chest measurement but must meet the prescribed minimum weight.

Candidates should not assume that self-measurement at home will necessarily match the official measurement exactly.

Does Being Taller Give Extra Marks?

No. The current notification explicitly states that no marks are awarded for height, chest or weight.

A 175 cm candidate and a 165 cm General male candidate are treated equally in relation to the minimum-height qualification, provided both satisfy the applicable physical standards.

Does Faster Running Give Extra Marks?

No. The Police SI PET functions as a qualifying test.

Once a candidate successfully completes the run within the required time, running substantially faster does not increase the Main Examination merit score.

The objective should therefore be reliable qualification rather than unnecessary overexertion on test day.

Can a Candidate Skip One PET Event?

No. Candidates must qualify the physical events prescribed for them.

Passing running but failing high jump, long jump or shot put does not constitute successful completion of the PET. Each applicable requirement must be cleared.

Are Physical Standards Relaxable?

Candidates should not expect discretionary relaxation from the minimum prescribed standards.

The notification states that candidates failing to meet the physical qualifications are declared unsuccessful.

The category-specific standards already incorporate the differences authorised under the recruitment rules.

Current Bihar Police SI PET Status

The Advertisement No. 05/2025 recruitment reached the physical-test scheduling stage during 2026. BPSSC published a PET and document-verification notice on 12 August 2026 and subsequently issued a PET postponement notice on 28 August 2026.

BPSSC then cancelled the Main Written Examination through a notice dated 23 September 2026.

Current Position: Because the main examination itself has been cancelled, candidates should rely on the Commission's fresh notices for the revised mains and subsequent physical-stage schedule rather than treating the earlier PET timetable as currently operative.
