🌍 International Affairs
- The 26th SCO Summit was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, from 31 August to 1 September. The year 2026 marked the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
- India highlighted three pillars for its SCO engagement — Security, Connectivity and Opportunity. The summit adopted the Bishkek Declaration, four MoUs and more than 20 decisions and statements covering areas including climate, nuclear safety, energy conservation and combating drug addiction.

- India and Belgium signed or advanced cooperation through a defence Letter of Intent, a CBI–Belgian Federal Police cooperation arrangement, and renewed cooperation in renewable energy including green hydrogen, solar power, energy storage and offshore wind.
💰 Economy & Banking
- India’s real GDP grew 7.8% year-on-year in Q1, April–June, of FY 2026–27. Real GDP was estimated at ₹81.36 lakh crore.
- Nominal GDP grew 10.3% to ₹88.27 lakh crore, while real GVA grew 8.2% to ₹73.82 lakh crore. The new National Accounts series uses 2022–23 as the base year.
- On 2 September, Japan Credit Rating Agency, or JCR, upgraded India’s long-term foreign- and local-currency issuer ratings from BBB+ to A-, with a Stable outlook. India’s country ceiling was raised to A.
- JCR attributed the upgrade to factors including economic growth, fiscal quality, financial-system strength and India’s external position.
- As of 31 August, 20 IFSC Banking Units at GIFT IFSC had sanctioned US$54.02 billion under RBI’s special FCNR(B) swap facility, of which around US$52.82 billion had been disbursed.

- INS Nipun was commissioned at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, on 31 August. It is the second Diving Support Vessel of the Nistar class.
