The IBPS Clerk 2026 recruitment, officially called IBPS Customer Service Associate or IBPS CSA 2026, is being conducted through CRP CSA-XVI for clerical-cadre vacancies in participating public sector banks.
The current vacancy tables add up to 11,403 indicative Customer Service Associate vacancies for the 2027–28 vacancy year. The recruitment covers 11 participating public sector banks, although the vacancy tables currently show Union Bank of India as NR — Not Reported. Candidates should therefore treat 11,403 as the present reported total rather than assume it is fixed.
The application period has already closed. Registration began on 1 August 2026, with the original 21 August deadline subsequently extended to 28 August 2026.
Latest IBPS Clerk 2026 Update: IBPS has opened a separate State/UT and participating-bank preference window from 18 to 23 September 2026 for registered candidates.
Upcoming Exam Dates: The IBPS CSA Preliminary Examination is scheduled for 10 and 11 October 2026, followed by the Main Examination on 27 December 2026.

What Is IBPS Clerk 2026?
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection conducts a common recruitment examination for clerical-cadre posts in the participating public sector banks, known as IBPS Clerk.
The official post name is now Customer Service Associate (CSA).
IBPS Clerk 2026 = IBPS CSA 2026 = CRP CSA-XVI
Candidates searching any of these terms are discussing the same recruitment cycle.
A Customer Service Associate is generally a branch-level position and can be part of customer-facing banking operations, account-related services, transaction processing, deposits, documentation, digital-banking assistance and other routine branch functions depending on the duties assigned by the respective bank.
While the common recruitment process is managed by IBPS, an ultimately selected candidate is an employee of the bank to which he/she is provisionally allotted.
IBPS Clerk 2026 Latest Update
As of 22 September 2026, registered CRP CSA-XVI candidates can use the IBPS portal to update their State/UT and participating-bank preferences.
The data-capture window opened on 18 September and closes on 23 September 2026. This is separate from the original recruitment application.
Important: Because IBPS Clerk recruitment operates on a State/UT-wise basis, the State or Union Territory selected by a candidate is important for the vacancy pool, local-language requirement and eventual allotment process.
Candidates should also take the order of participating-bank preference seriously as the final provisional allotment is done on a merit-cum-preference framework, subject to eligibility, category and reported vacancies.
IBPS Clerk Vacancy 2026
The current CRP CSA-XVI vacancy tables contain 11,403 indicative vacancies.
One important technical detail is that the notification's annexure reports vacancies State/UT-wise and bank-wise. The figure of 11,403 is obtained by aggregating those published vacancy tables. Union Bank of India's figures remain marked NR, meaning Not Reported.
IBPS Clerk 2026 Bank-Wise Vacancy
| Participating Bank | Reported Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Canara Bank | 2,500 |
| Punjab National Bank | 2,016 |
| Indian Bank | 1,700 |
| Central Bank of India | 1,419 |
| Bank of Baroda | 1,200 |
| Indian Overseas Bank | 780 |
| Bank of India | 500 |
| Bank of Maharashtra | 500 |
| UCO Bank | 412 |
| Punjab & Sind Bank | 376 |
| Union Bank of India | NR |
| Current Reported Total | 11,403 |
The bank-wise aggregation shows Canara Bank with 2,500 vacancies, followed by Punjab National Bank with 2,016 and Indian Bank with 1,700.
NR does not mean zero. It means a participating bank had not reported a numerical vacancy figure in the published vacancy table.
A separate IBPS Clerk Vacancy 2026 page should cover the complete State/UT-wise, bank-wise and category-wise distribution.
IBPS Clerk Category-Wise Vacancy 2026
The currently reported 11,403 vacancies are distributed as follows:
| Category | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Unreserved / UR | 4,740 |
| OBC-NCL | 2,815 |
| Scheduled Caste | 1,910 |
| EWS | 996 |
| Scheduled Tribe | 942 |
| Total | 11,403 |
Reservation benefits depend on satisfying the prescribed eligibility and document requirements. Candidates should therefore check category requirements rather than relying only on vacancy totals.
IBPS Clerk State-Wise Vacancies 2026
Unlike IBPS PO, the clerical/CSA recruitment is particularly important at the State/UT level.
Some of the largest current vacancy pools include:
| State/UT | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Uttar Pradesh | 1,731 |
| Karnataka | 1,414 |
| Maharashtra | 1,051 |
| West Bengal | 946 |
| Gujarat | 698 |
| Tamil Nadu | 675 |
| Madhya Pradesh | 570 |
| Bihar | 491 |
| Punjab | 481 |
| Delhi | 415 |
| Rajasthan | 392 |
| Assam | 349 |
| Odisha | 337 |
| Chhattisgarh | 265 |
| Haryana | 196 |
| Telangana | 191 |
| Andhra Pradesh | 186 |
The complete notification covers vacancies across States and Union Territories rather than only the major vacancy states shown above.
This State/UT structure is one of the most important differences candidates should understand when comparing IBPS Clerk with IBPS PO.
IBPS Clerk Participating Banks 2026
CRP CSA-XVI covers the following 11 public sector banks:
- Bank of Baroda
- Bank of India
- Bank of Maharashtra
- Canara Bank

Remember: Candidates are not recruited by IBPS itself. IBPS manages the common examination and allotment process, while the participating bank becomes the employer after successful provisional allotment and completion of applicable formalities.

IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026
The standard IBPS Clerk/CSA age requirement is 20 to 28 years as on 1 August 2026.
Candidates under the standard age rule must have been born not earlier than 2 August 1998 and not later than 1 August 2006, with both dates included. Reserved and specified categories receive upper-age relaxation according to the notification.
Candidates also require a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university or an equivalent recognised qualification.
Additional Requirements: Computer literacy is an important eligibility requirement. Because recruitment is State/UT-specific, candidates must also satisfy the applicable local-language proficiency requirement for the State or Union Territory they select.
The dedicated IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026 page should explain age relaxation, graduation, computer knowledge, local-language requirements, nationality and final-year eligibility in detail.
IBPS Clerk Selection Process 2026
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
- Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) where applicable
- Provisional Allotment
No Interview: There is no interview in the standard IBPS CSA recruitment process.
Prelims is a screening examination. Its marks do not form the final merit score.
The marks obtained in the Main Examination are used for final merit and provisional allotment, subject to qualifying requirements, State/UT vacancies, category, preferences and other recruitment conditions.
IBPS Clerk Prelims Exam Pattern 2026
| Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 minutes |
| Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
| Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
| Total | 100 | 100 | 60 minutes |
Each section is separately timed. Candidates therefore receive 20 minutes for English, 20 minutes for Numerical Ability and 20 minutes for Reasoning.
IBPS Clerk Mains Exam Pattern 2026
Important Pattern Update: The CRP CSA-XVI Mains pattern has changed, making older IBPS Clerk exam-pattern pages potentially misleading.
| Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| General / Financial Awareness | 40 | 50 | 20 minutes |
| General English | 40 | 40 | 35 minutes |
| Reasoning Ability | 40 | 60 | 35 minutes |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 40 | 50 | 35 minutes |
| Total | 160 | 200 | 125 minutes |
The current notification specifies 160 questions, 200 marks and 125 minutes for Mains.
This is particularly important for candidates using older preparation material because earlier IBPS Clerk cycles used different Mains structures.
IBPS Clerk Syllabus 2026
The Preliminary syllabus centres on English Language, Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability.
English Language
English preparation includes areas such as Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, fillers, error detection, sentence improvement, para jumbles, vocabulary and grammar.
Numerical Ability
Numerical Ability includes simplification, approximation, number series, Data Interpretation and core arithmetic topics such as percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, interest, time and work and time-speed-distance.
Reasoning Ability
Reasoning commonly covers puzzles, seating arrangements, syllogism, inequalities, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, order and ranking and related reasoning topics.
Mains Syllabus
Mains adds a major General/Financial Awareness component and increases the level of Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.
Candidates should use the dedicated IBPS Clerk Syllabus 2026 page for the complete topic-wise breakdown.
IBPS Clerk Preparation Strategy 2026
Candidates preparing for the 10–11 October Prelims should focus heavily on speed, accuracy and question selection.
The examination provides only 20 minutes for each section, so simply knowing how to solve a question is not sufficient.
- Reasoning: Combine short questions with regular puzzle and seating-arrangement practice.
- Numerical Ability: Begin with fast calculations and arithmetic fundamentals before moving into timed Data Interpretation.
- English: Combine grammar with Reading Comprehension and contextual vocabulary.
- General & Financial Awareness: Begin Mains-level preparation before the Preliminary result rather than attempting to cover several months of banking current affairs at the last moment.
A dedicated IBPS Clerk Preparation Strategy 2026 page should provide 90-day, 60-day, 30-day and final-week plans along with mock-test strategy.
IBPS Clerk Salary 2026
The Customer Service Associate pay scale begins with a basic pay of ₹24,050 and progresses through the notified clerical-cadre scale up to ₹64,480.
IBPS Clerk / CSA Pay Scale:
₹24,050–1,340/3–28,070–1,650/3–33,020–2,000/4–41,020–2,340/7–57,400–4,400/1–61,800–2,680/1–64,480
Allowances and benefits depend on the participating bank and applicable service rules.
Candidates should therefore distinguish basic pay from actual monthly gross or in-hand salary.
The dedicated IBPS Clerk Salary & Job Profile 2026 page can explain allowances, responsibilities, promotions and career progression in detail.
IBPS Clerk Application Fee 2026
The application fee/intimation charges for CRP CSA-XVI were:
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| SC/ST/PwBD/ESM/DESM | ₹175 |
| All Other Candidates | ₹850 |
Application Status: The application window is now closed.
Why Local Language Matters in IBPS Clerk
Local-language proficiency is more important in IBPS Clerk than many candidates initially realise.
The customer service associate interacts regularly with the branch customers. Therefore, recruitment of a customer service associate is associated with the language requirements of the selected state/UT.
Candidates who meet the prescribed exemption conditions based on having studied the relevant language at the required educational level may not need to take the separate language test. Other shortlisted candidates can be required to clear the Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) before appointment.
Important: Failure to satisfy the required local-language condition can affect appointment even after strong examination performance.
