The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have officially released the notification for the Junior Engineer (JE) Recruitment 2025. For engineering graduates and diploma holders across India, this is a golden opportunity to join the backbone of the country's infrastructure.

Initially, 2,569 vacancies were announced, but in a positive update, this has now been revised to 2,588 vacancies. While this number is lower than the massive 2019 cycle, the competition is expected to be extremely high—meaning strategic preparation is essential.

Key Highlights of 2025 Notification

  • Notification Number: CEN 05/2025
  • Application Status: Active (Deadline Extended)
  • Revised Vacancy: 2,588 Posts (JE, DMS, CMA)
  • Apply Online Link: Available on regional RRB websites (e.g., RRB Mumbai, RRB Chennai, RRB Patna)

Vacancy Breakdown: The "Seat Matrix"

The vacancies are not just for "Junior Engineers." They are divided across three separate roles. Understanding the differences is crucial for making the right post-preference choices.

1. Junior Engineer (JE)

  • Streams: Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, S&T (Signal & Telecom), IT
  • Role: Supervising track maintenance, locomotive repair, signal testing, overhead equipment (OHE), and technical fieldwork

2. Depot Material Superintendent (DMS)

  • Role: Railway stores management, procurement, inventory oversight
  • Why apply? Ideal for candidates who prefer management and logistics tasks over hardcore engineering field duties.

3. Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA)

  • Role: Testing of railway materials (e.g., wheels, axles, rails) in labs
  • Eligibility: B.Sc (Physics & Chemistry). Engineers are not eligible unless they possess the required B.Sc degree.

  • Job Security: Full protection under central government service rules.
  • Pass Facility: Free railway passes for you and your family for travel across India.
  • Status & Authority: You join as a supervisor from Day 1, leading teams of technicians, workers, and field staff.
