SBI PO Eligibility Criteria
Latest details for this resource.
Considering a career as a Probationary Officer (PO) at the State Bank of India? Before you rush to apply, take a moment to check whether you fit the bill. SBI’s eligibility norms—covering your age, educational background, nationality, and more—are in place to make sure only the right candidates move forward to the intense selection rounds: Prelims, Mains, Group Exercises, and Interview.
1. Age Requirements
You need to be between 21 and 30 years old as of April 1, 2025. However, SBI offers extra leeway for certain groups:
- SC/ST: Add 5 years to the upper age limit
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): Add 3 years
- Persons with Disabilities (PwBD):
- UR/EWS: +10 years
- OBC: +13 years
- SC/ST: +15 years
- Ex-Servicemen: +5 years
Remember, any candidates with serious character or credit history issues (like loan defaults) will be ruled out.
2. Education Qualifications
A graduation degree from a recognized university is a must. Here’s the catch:
- If you’re in your final year or semester, you can still apply—provided you show proof of graduation by April 30, 2025.
- If you have an Integrated Dual Degree (IDD), the passing date must also be on or before that day.
- Professional graduates—engineers, doctors, accountants, and the like—meet the requirement too.
3. Who Qualifies Nationality-Wise?
You must fall into one of these categories:
- Citizen of India
- Subject of Nepal or Bhutan
- Tibetan refugee (who arrived in India before January 1, 1962)
- Person of Indian origin (from select nations such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, East African countries, etc.)
If you’re not an Indian citizen, SBI will ask to see a Government of India eligibility certificate.
4. How Many Tries Do You Get?
| Category | Max Attempts |
|---|---|
| General / EWS | 4 |
| OBC (and OBC PwBD), UR PwBD, EWS PwBD | 7 |
| SC / ST (and PwBD variants) | Unlimited |
5. Calculating Your Graduation Percentage
Make sure you use the official formula and enter it to two decimals:
Percentage = (Total Marks Obtained ÷ Maximum Marks) × 100
If your university uses CGPA/OGPA, convert it as per your institution’s guidelines and carry a conversion certificate to the interview.
6. Work Experience
Fresh out of college? No worries: SBI welcomes new graduates. There’s no mandatory experience needed.
Bottom Line
- Confirm you’re aged 21–30 (plus any category relaxations).
- Ensure you hold a recognized graduation degree (or proof by April 30, 2025).
- Check your nationality criteria and get an eligibility certificate if required.
- Know your attempt limits: 4 (Gen/EWS), 7 (OBC & PwBD), unlimited (SC/ST).
- Calculate your percentage precisely and have evidence handy.
- No prior work experience needed—fresh graduates can jump right in.
With these checks done, you’re all set to apply for SBI PO 2025 and start your preparation in earnest. Good luck!
