What Is UIIC AO?

UIIC AO refers to the Administrative Officer (Scale I) position in United India Insurance Company Limited.

UIIC is a public-sector general insurance company, and Administrative Officers form part of its officer cadre.

Depending on the role and posting, an AO may work in areas connected with:

  • Underwriting
  • Claims administration
  • Policy servicing
  • Accounts and finance
  • Customer and intermediary servicing
  • Risk assessment
  • Branch administration
  • Business operations
  • Compliance
  • General insurance products

Hindi Officers have a more specialised language-oriented role involving Hindi, English, official-language implementation and translation-related responsibilities.

Key Point: UIIC AO should be viewed as an insurance-sector officer recruitment, not as a clerical examination.

UIIC AO Vacancy 2026

EWS 22 2 24

Generalist Vacancies: The Generalist stream accounts for almost 89% of the total recruitment, with 200 of the 225 vacancies.

PwBD reservation is horizontal and operates within the notified vacancies rather than being added on top of the 225 posts.

A separate UIIC AO Vacancy 2026 page should cover the complete reservation matrix and PwBD breakup in more detail.

UIIC AO Eligibility Criteria 2026

Age Limit

Candidates should generally be:

Minimum Age — 21 years

Maximum Age — 30 years

Age Cut-off — 30 June 2026

Upper-age relaxation applies to eligible categories.

Category Standard Relaxation
SC / ST 5 years
OBC Non-Creamy Layer 3 years
PwBD 10 years, with applicable cumulative provisions subject to notification rules

Other concessions apply to specified ex-servicemen, eligible women candidates and certain employees of public-sector general insurance companies.

UIIC AO Generalist Qualification

For the Generalist post, candidates need a Graduate Degree or Postgraduate Degree in any discipline from a recognised university with at least:

Category Required Marks
Standard Category 60%
SC / ST / PwBD 55%

The required percentage can be satisfied in either the graduate or postgraduate qualification used for eligibility.

This means candidates from disciplines such as Arts, Commerce, Science, Engineering, Agriculture and other recognised fields can apply if they satisfy the required percentage.

Can Final-Year Students Apply?

Candidates must possess the required qualification by 30 June 2026. Candidates whose final qualifying result was declared after this date are not eligible under the current recruitment conditions.

This is important because UIIC AO differs from SBI Clerk 2026, where certain final-year students could complete graduation later in the year.

Hindi Officer Qualification

Hindi Officer candidates require a prescribed Master's degree involving Hindi and English.

The accepted combinations include a Master's degree in Hindi with English at degree level, a Master's degree in English with Hindi at degree level, or specified equivalent combinations involving Hindi and English as subjects or mediums of examination.

The required marks are generally 60%, reduced to 55% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

Working knowledge of computers is also required.

A dedicated eligibility page should explain all Hindi Officer degree combinations separately rather than compressing them into the Overview.

UIIC AO Application Fee 2026

Category Fee
General / OBC / EWS / Other Candidates ₹1,000 + GST
SC / ST / PwBD ₹250 + GST as service charges
Permanent UIIC Employees ₹250 + GST as service charges

The reduced-category amount represents service charges rather than the standard application fee.

UIIC AO Selection Process 2026

A major change in 2026 is the introduction of a distinct Preliminary Examination before Mains.

Tier I Preliminary Examination → Tier II Main Examination → Descriptive Test → Interview → Document/Eligibility Verification & Medical Requirements

Tier I is a screening stage and does not contribute to final merit.

UIIC AO Tier I Exam Pattern 2026

Tier I is common to both Generalists and Hindi Officers.

Section Questions Marks Time
English Language 30 30 20 min
Reasoning 35 35 20 min
Quantitative Aptitude 35 35 20 min
Total 100 100 60 min

Each section has its own time limit. Candidates need to meet the prescribed qualifying requirements for progression to Tier II.

Negative Marking: One-fourth of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for an incorrect answer, while unanswered questions do not attract a penalty.

UIIC AO Generalist Mains Pattern 2026

The Generalist Main Examination contains 200 objective questions carrying 250 marks.

Section Questions Marks Time
English Language 40 50 30 min
Reasoning 50 60 40 min
Quantitative Aptitude 50 60 40 min
General Awareness – Financial Sector Focus 40 60 30 min
Computer Knowledge 20 20 10 min
Total 200 250 150 min

The objective examination is immediately followed by a 30-mark English Descriptive Test with a duration of 30 minutes.

Descriptive Component Marks
Letter Writing 10
Essay Writing 20
Total 30

For Generalists, the descriptive component functions as a qualifying requirement; final merit uses the Main objective examination and Interview under the prescribed 75:25 weighting.

UIIC AO Hindi Officer Mains Pattern

Hindi Officers have a different Mains examination. Their objective paper contains:

  • English Language
  • Reasoning
  • Professional Knowledge
  • General Awareness
  • Computer Knowledge

Professional Knowledge is particularly important, carrying 100 of the 200 objective marks. It covers Hindi/English grammar and vocabulary, official-language rules and translation.

The Hindi Officer descriptive examination carries 50 marks and includes English/Hindi writing and translation tasks.

Current detailed reproductions of the notification indicate that, unlike the Generalist stream, Hindi Officer Tier-II merit includes the applicable objective and descriptive components before the Interview weighting is applied.

This distinction should be explained fully on the dedicated UIIC AO Syllabus & Exam Pattern 2026 page.

UIIC AO Syllabus 2026

For Generalist candidates, the main question-bank areas are:

English Language

Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, error detection, fillers, sentence improvement, para jumbles, vocabulary, contextual usage and descriptive English.

Reasoning

Puzzles, seating arrangements, syllogism, inequalities, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, ranking, input-output, data sufficiency and logical reasoning.

Quantitative Aptitude

Data Interpretation, number series, simplification, approximation, percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance, mixture, partnership, probability and related arithmetic.

General/Financial Awareness

Current affairs, financial-sector developments, insurance awareness, IRDAI, banking awareness, RBI, monetary policy, government financial schemes, economy, budget and major financial institutions.

Computer Knowledge

Computer fundamentals, hardware, software, operating systems, networking, Internet, cyber security, databases and office applications.

Syllabus Note: UIIC does not publish a detailed chapter-by-chapter syllabus in the same way candidates often see on coaching websites; the detailed topic map is preparation-oriented and derived from the examination sections and recurring question types.

Why UIIC AO Has High Question-Bank Reuse for Banking Candidates

Candidates already preparing for IBPS PO, SBI PO or similar officer exams will recognise much of the UIIC AO syllabus.

The reusable areas include:

  • Reasoning
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • English
  • General/Financial Awareness
  • Computer Knowledge

For PraveshExam: Most existing banking aptitude topic banks can be mapped to UIIC AO Generalist preparation.

The main additional layer to build is Insurance Awareness.

Insurance Awareness should include general insurance terminology, IRDAI, insurance principles, policy types, claims, reinsurance and important developments in India's insurance sector.

This provides strong question-bank reuse without incorrectly labelling banking PYQs as UIIC PYQs.

UIIC AO Salary 2026

UIIC Administrative Officer Scale I carries a starting basic pay of ₹82,485.

Starting Basic Pay: ₹82,485

Pay Scale: ₹82,485 – ₹1,56,745

Approx. Gross Monthly Pay at Metro Centres: ₹1,10,000

Applicable benefits can include:

  • Gratuity
  • Leave Travel Subsidy
  • Medical benefits
  • Group Personal Accident Insurance
  • National Pension System
  • Leased accommodation according to Company rules

Salary Note: Gross salary should not be confused with take-home salary because deductions and benefits can vary.

UIIC AO Probation and Service Bond

Selected Administrative Officers are generally placed on one year of probation, which may be governed or extended according to UIIC rules.

Service Commitment: The recruitment conditions include a five-year service commitment/bond, and candidates leaving before the specified service period may become liable for the prescribed damages and onboarding-related amount.

New officers are also expected to satisfy the applicable insurance professional examination requirements specified by UIIC during service/probation.

These conditions should be explained in detail on the Salary & Job Profile page.

Where Can a UIIC AO Be Posted?

UIIC recruits Administrative Officers for its offices across India.

The current recruitment material indicates that vacancy requirements are particularly concentrated in Southern and Western zones, although candidates may be posted according to Company requirements.

All-India Posting: This differs from State-specific clerical recruitments such as SBI Clerk. Candidates should approach UIIC AO as an all-India officer posting opportunity.

UIIC AO vs Bank PO

UIIC AO and Bank PO examinations share large parts of their aptitude syllabus, but the careers are different.

Area UIIC AO Bank PO
Sector General Insurance Banking
Core Work Areas Underwriting, claims, policy administration, risk and insurance operations Deposits, lending, customer service, credit and branch management
Aptitude Overlap Reasoning, Quant, English, Financial Awareness, Computer Reasoning, Quant, English, Financial Awareness, Computer
Additional Focus Insurance Awareness + Financial Awareness Banking and Financial Awareness

A Bank PO works primarily within banking operations, deposits, lending, customer service, credit and branch management.

A UIIC AO works within the general insurance industry, potentially dealing with underwriting, claims, policy administration, risk, insurance operations and related management responsibilities.

Preparation Focus: UIIC Mains therefore deserves additional preparation in Insurance Awareness + Financial Awareness rather than relying solely on conventional banking awareness.
