UIIC AO Syllabus 2026: Tier I & Tier II Exam Pattern

Latest details for this resource.

The UIIC AO Syllabus 2026 is divided into a common Tier I Preliminary Examination, followed by a stream-specific Tier II Main Examination and Descriptive Test, and then an Interview.

Tier I is common to both Generalists and Hindi Officers and contains 100 objective questions for 100 marks in 60 minutes. Candidates who qualify Tier I are shortlisted for Tier II.

Generalist Tier II: 200 objective questions carrying 250 marks, followed by a 30-mark English Descriptive Test.

Hindi Officer Tier II: 150 objective questions carrying 200 marks, followed by a 50-mark English-Hindi Descriptive Test.

Syllabus Note: The official notification specifies the sections, question counts, marks, timings and selection rules. The detailed chapter-level syllabus below is a preparation-oriented topic map based on those official sections and the question types commonly used in banking and insurance officer examinations.

UIIC AO Exam Pattern 2026 Overview

Tier I Exam: 22 October 2026 – Tentative

Tier II Exam: 30 November 2026 – Tentative

UIIC AO Tier I Exam Pattern 2026

Tier I is identical for Generalist and Hindi Officer candidates.

Section Questions Marks Time Medium
English Language 30 30 20 min English
Reasoning 35 35 20 min English / Hindi
Quantitative Aptitude 35 35 20 min English / Hindi
Total 100 100 60 min —

Separate Sectional Timers: Every Tier I section is separately timed.

Candidates must secure the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by UIIC in each section and must also meet the overall qualifying score. An adequate number of candidates category-wise will then be shortlisted for Tier II.

This is an important difference from SBI Clerk 2026, where no individual Prelims qualifying marks were prescribed. UIIC AO explicitly uses both sectional and overall qualification requirements.

UIIC AO Tier I Syllabus 2026

English Language Syllabus

The English section contains 30 questions in 20 minutes.

Preparation should cover:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Cloze Test
  • Fillers
  • Error Detection
  • Sentence Correction
  • Sentence Improvement
  • Phrase Replacement
  • Para Jumbles
  • Sentence Rearrangement
  • Word Swap
  • Contextual Vocabulary
  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • Sentence Completion
  • Connectors
  • Grammar
  • Spelling
  • Word Usage

For an officer-level examination, English preparation should not be limited to grammar rules.

Candidates should also practise inference-based reading, contextual vocabulary, tone, central idea and sentence relationships. The 20-minute sectional timer means reading speed and question selection matter almost as much as grammar knowledge.

Reasoning Syllabus

Reasoning contains 35 questions in 20 minutes at Tier I.

Important preparation areas include:

  • Seating Arrangement
  • Linear Arrangement
  • Circular Arrangement
  • Floor-Based Puzzles
  • Box-Based Puzzles
  • Scheduling Puzzles
  • Order and Ranking
  • Inequality
  • Syllogism
  • Coding-Decoding
  • Blood Relations
  • Direction Sense
  • Alphanumeric Series
  • Data Sufficiency
  • Miscellaneous Logical Reasoning

Candidates preparing from IBPS PO or SBI PO material can reuse much of their Reasoning preparation for UIIC AO.

Tier I is primarily a screening stage, so speed on short topics and quick puzzle selection is particularly valuable.

Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus

Quantitative Aptitude contains 35 questions in 20 minutes.

Important areas include:

  • Simplification
  • Approximation
  • Number Series
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Data Interpretation
  • Percentage
  • Ratio and Proportion
  • Average
  • Profit and Loss
  • Simple and Compound Interest
  • Partnership
  • Mixture and Alligation
  • Time and Work
  • Pipes and Cisterns
  • Time-Speed-Distance
  • Trains
  • Boats and Streams
  • Ages
  • Mensuration
  • Probability
  • Permutation and Combination
  • Quantity Comparison

Calculation Speed Matters: Candidates should develop strong calculation fundamentals because 20 minutes is a short window for 35 questions. Percentage-fraction conversion, squares, multiplication, ratios and approximation can save substantial time across arithmetic and DI.

UIIC AO Generalist Tier II Exam Pattern 2026

Generalist candidates who qualify Tier I appear for a much larger Main Examination.

Section Questions Marks Time
English Language 40 50 30 min
Reasoning 50 60 40 min
Quantitative Aptitude 50 60 40 min
General Awareness with Special Reference to Financial Sector 40 60 30 min
Computer Knowledge 20 20 10 min
Total Objective 200 250 150 min
Descriptive English 2 30 30 min

The objective and descriptive tests are both conducted online. The descriptive paper begins immediately after completion of the objective examination and must be typed on the computer.

UIIC AO Generalist Tier II Syllabus

Generalist English Language

Tier II English carries 50 marks from 40 questions, giving it greater scoring weight than its raw question count might suggest.

Preparation should include:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Advanced RC Inference
  • Cloze Test
  • Error Detection
  • Sentence Improvement
  • Phrase Replacement
  • Fillers
  • Para Jumbles
  • Word Rearrangement
  • Vocabulary in Context
  • Sentence Completion
  • Connectors
  • Column Matching
  • Grammatical Usage

Mains-level preparation should focus increasingly on context and comprehension rather than only isolated grammar questions.

Generalist Reasoning

Reasoning carries 60 marks from 50 questions, making it one of the highest-weight sections in Generalist Tier II.

Important topics include:

  • High-Level Puzzles
  • Seating Arrangements
  • Floor and Flat Puzzles
  • Scheduling
  • Multi-Variable Puzzles
  • Input-Output
  • Coding-Decoding
  • Syllogism
  • Inequality
  • Data Sufficiency
  • Blood Relations
  • Direction and Distance
  • Ranking
  • Statement and Conclusion
  • Statement and Assumption
  • Cause and Effect
  • Course of Action
  • Inference
  • Decision Making
  • Critical Reasoning

Candidates should gradually shift from single-topic questions toward mixed, multi-condition reasoning sets.

Generalist Quantitative Aptitude

Quantitative Aptitude also carries 60 marks from 50 questions.

Preparation areas include:

  • Advanced Data Interpretation
  • Tabular DI
  • Bar Graph DI
  • Line Graph DI
  • Pie Chart DI
  • Mixed Graph DI
  • Caselet DI
  • Missing Data DI
  • Arithmetic DI
  • Data Sufficiency
  • Quantity Comparison
  • Number Series
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Percentage
  • Ratio
  • Average
  • Profit-Loss
  • Interest
  • Partnership
  • Mixture
  • Time-Work
  • Time-Speed-Distance
  • Mensuration
  • Probability
  • Permutation-Combination

At Tier II level, DI can combine several arithmetic concepts within one set. Candidates should therefore master arithmetic conceptually rather than treating every topic as an isolated chapter.

General Awareness with Special Reference to Financial Sector

This is one of the most important UIIC-specific areas because the official section carries 60 marks from 40 questions.

Preparation should cover:

  • Current Affairs
  • Indian Economy
  • Banking Awareness
  • Financial Awareness
  • RBI
  • Monetary Policy
  • Repo Rate
  • SDF
  • CRR
  • SLR
  • Inflation
  • GDP
  • Union Budget
  • Economic Survey
  • Financial Institutions
  • SEBI
  • NABARD
  • SIDBI
  • IRDAI
  • Public-Sector Financial Institutions
  • Financial Inclusion
  • Government Financial Schemes
  • Digital Payments
  • UPI
  • NPCI
  • Capital Markets
  • Important Financial-Sector Developments

Because this is an insurance-company examination, candidates should also add a dedicated Insurance Awareness layer.

Insurance Awareness Topics

  • Principles of Insurance
  • General Insurance
  • Life vs General Insurance
  • IRDAI
  • Insurance Act
  • Insurance Terminology
  • Underwriting
  • Premium
  • Policyholder
  • Nominee
  • Beneficiary
  • Indemnity
  • Insurable Interest
  • Subrogation
  • Contribution
  • Proximate Cause
  • Utmost Good Faith
  • Reinsurance
  • Claims
  • Motor Insurance
  • Health Insurance
  • Property Insurance
  • Fire Insurance
  • Marine Insurance
  • Current Developments in India's Insurance Sector

The official section name is General Awareness with Special Reference to Financial Sector; it does not provide a fixed chapter-by-chapter distribution. Candidates should therefore avoid assuming that a predetermined number of questions will always come from insurance.

UIIC AO Computer Knowledge Syllabus

Computer Knowledge contains 20 questions for 20 marks in only 10 minutes in Generalist Tier II.

Important areas include:

  • Computer Fundamentals
  • Hardware
  • Software
  • Operating Systems
  • Memory and Storage
  • Input/Output Devices
  • Computer Networks
  • Internet
  • Web Technologies
  • Cyber Security
  • Malware
  • Database Basics
  • Microsoft Office
  • Keyboard Shortcuts
  • Computer Abbreviations
  • Cloud Computing
  • Digital Banking Technology
  • Basic Information-Security Concepts

Speed Requirement: The section provides only 30 seconds per question on average, so preparation should focus on quick factual recognition rather than lengthy problem solving.

For PraveshExam: Most of the Computer Awareness question bank already created for banking exams can be reused for UIIC AO practice.

UIIC AO Generalist Descriptive Test 2026

The Generalist descriptive examination carries 30 marks in 30 minutes.

Task Marks
Letter Writing 10
Essay Writing 20
Total 30

The examination is conducted online in English, and candidates must type their answers.

The descriptive answer script is evaluated only for candidates who qualify the objective Main Examination according to UIIC's requirements.

UIIC separately decides the qualifying marks for the descriptive test.

Does the Generalist Descriptive Test Count in Final Merit?

No. For Generalists, the descriptive test is qualifying.

Final merit uses Tier II Objective Examination + Interview in the ratio of 75:25.

The marks obtained in Tier I and the Generalist descriptive test are not included in the final merit list.

Candidates must still qualify the descriptive test, so it should not be ignored simply because it does not add to the final score.

UIIC AO Hindi Officer Tier II Exam Pattern 2026

Hindi Officer candidates have a significantly different Main Examination.

Section Questions Marks Time
English Language 25 25 20 min
Reasoning 25 25 30 min
Professional Knowledge 50 100 50 min
General Awareness 25 25 10 min
Computer Knowledge 25 25 10 min
Total Objective 150 200 120 min
Descriptive English & Hindi 5 tasks 50 60 min

Professional Knowledge alone carries half of the objective-paper marks, making it the dominant Hindi Officer section.

UIIC Hindi Officer Professional Knowledge Syllabus

Unlike the Generalist syllabus, UIIC provides a more explicit description of Professional Knowledge.

It covers:

  • Hindi Grammar
  • English Grammar
  • Hindi Vocabulary
  • English Vocabulary
  • Acts and Rules related to Official Language implementation
  • English-to-Hindi Translation
  • Hindi-to-English Translation

Because the section contains 50 questions for 100 marks, candidates should devote a substantial proportion of their preparation time to it.

Preparation should include grammar accuracy, administrative and official terminology, translation precision, idiomatic differences between Hindi and English, and knowledge of India's Official Language framework.

Hindi Officer English Language

Hindi Officer English contains 25 questions for 25 marks.

Preparation can include Reading Comprehension, grammar, error detection, sentence correction, vocabulary, usage, fillers, sentence arrangement and contextual English.

Since Professional Knowledge also assesses English grammar and vocabulary, strong language fundamentals support both sections.

Hindi Officer Reasoning

Reasoning contains 25 questions for 25 marks.

The preparation areas overlap with the common banking/insurance reasoning syllabus:

  • Puzzles
  • Seating Arrangements
  • Inequality
  • Syllogism
  • Coding-Decoding
  • Blood Relations
  • Directions
  • Ranking
  • Alphanumeric Reasoning
  • Logical Reasoning

Candidates should note the comparatively long 30-minute allocation for 25 Reasoning questions, which can accommodate more complex problem structures than the 20-minute Tier I section.

Hindi Officer General Awareness

General Awareness contains 25 questions for 25 marks.

Preparation should include national and international current affairs, economy, financial sector, insurance developments, important institutions, government schemes, awards, appointments, reports and major events.

Because Hindi Officer is still an Administrative Officer role within a public-sector insurer, insurance and financial-sector awareness should remain part of preparation.

Hindi Officer Computer Knowledge

Computer Knowledge contains 25 questions for 25 marks in 10 minutes.

Important topics include computer fundamentals, hardware, software, operating systems, memory, networking, Internet, cyber security, databases, office applications and computer abbreviations.

The extremely short time per question means candidates should practise factual computer-awareness questions at speed.

UIIC Hindi Officer Descriptive Test 2026

The Hindi Officer descriptive examination is substantially larger than the Generalist descriptive paper.

It contains five tasks for 50 marks in 60 minutes:

Task Marks
English Essay 10
Hindi Essay 10
Hindi Letter Writing 10
English to Hindi Translation 10
Hindi to English Translation 10
Total 50

The test is conducted online, so candidates type their responses on a computer.

For Hindi typing, UIIC specifically identifies two keyboard layouts:

Inscript

Remington (GAIL)

Hindi Officer candidates should therefore practise actual timed typing rather than preparing only with handwritten translation exercises.

Does Hindi Officer Descriptive Count in Final Merit?

Yes. This is a major difference from Generalist recruitment.

For Hindi Officers, Tier II comprises both:

  • Objective Test
  • Descriptive Test

That combined Main Examination performance is used with the Interview for final merit in a 75:25 ratio.

Tier I marks are not included in final merit.

Generalist: Objective Mains + Interview

Hindi Officer: Objective Mains + Descriptive + Interview

Candidates should not apply the Generalist merit rule to Hindi Officer recruitment.

UIIC AO Negative Marking 2026

Negative marking applies in both the Preliminary and Main objective examinations.

Wrong Answer Penalty: One-fourth of the marks assigned to that question is deducted.

Unanswered Question: No penalty.

This distinction matters because some Tier II questions carry more than one mark.

The penalty is not simply “0.25 marks for every question.” It is 25% of the marks assigned to that particular question.

Candidates should therefore prioritise accuracy and avoid unsupported guessing.

UIIC AO Sectional Cut-Off 2026

Yes. UIIC explicitly states that there will be a section-wise cut-off in each section and an overall cut-off in each category.

Tier I candidates must qualify each section as well as the overall examination.

For Mains, candidates must similarly meet the qualifying requirements specified by the Company before progressing through the recruitment process.

UIIC does not announce one permanent universal cutoff in advance. The Company determines minimum passing marks and cutoffs according to the recruitment conditions.

UIIC AO Interview 2026

Candidates who qualify the Main Examination are shortlisted for Interview.

UIIC states that candidates may be called up to three times the number of vacancies in the respective category and discipline.

Final Weightage: 75% Main Examination + 25% Interview

Candidates should therefore not treat the Interview as a minor formality.

UIIC AO Generalist vs Hindi Officer Exam Pattern

Feature Generalist Hindi Officer
Tier I Same common paper Same common paper
Tier II Objective Questions 200 150
Tier II Objective Marks 250 200
Objective Duration 150 min 120 min
Descriptive Marks 30 50
Descriptive Duration 30 min 60 min
Professional Knowledge No 100 marks
Financial-Sector GA Dedicated 60-mark section General Awareness 25 marks
Quantitative Aptitude in Mains Yes No separate Quant section
Descriptive in Final Merit No Yes
Interview Yes Yes

This comparison illustrates why Generalist and Hindi Officer candidates should not use the same Main Examination preparation plan.

UIIC AO Prelims vs Mains for Generalists

Tier I focuses only on:

English + Reasoning + Quantitative Aptitude

Tier II expands the examination to include:

English + Reasoning + Quant + Financial-Sector General Awareness + Computer Knowledge + Descriptive English

The Generalist difficulty transition therefore involves two changes:

  • Higher-level aptitude
  • Additional knowledge sections

Preparation Strategy: Candidates should begin General/Financial Awareness and Computer Knowledge preparation before Tier I rather than waiting until the Prelims result.

How Much of the Banking Syllabus Can Be Reused?

UIIC AO Generalist has very high overlap with IBPS PO and SBI PO.

For PraveshExam, existing question banks can be reused for:

  • Reasoning Ability
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • English Language
  • Data Interpretation
  • Computer Awareness
  • Financial Awareness
  • Current Affairs

The main additional topic family should be Insurance Awareness.

That question bank can later also support exams such as NIACL AO, NIACL Assistant, LIC AAO and other insurance-sector recruitments.

PYQ Attribution Rule: Exam-specific PYQs must retain their original attribution. An IBPS PO PYQ can be shown as useful UIIC AO practice, but it should not be relabelled as a UIIC AO PYQ.
